Sand Dancer

Director Valerie Reid does an excellent job showing the work and passion of New Zealand sand artist, Peter Donnelly in this short film, The Right Step. Better known as Sand Dancer, Donnelly creates huge pictures in the sand, remarkably, without ever seeing the whole piece until he is done. Reid gracefully illustrates Sand Dancer's beautiful outlook on his artwork, which is washed away with high tide. He sees the piece's birth, life, and death and then the cycle continues with a new work of art and in that, he finds his peace.

The Ugly Truth Poster

So I'm not sure if this movie will be any good, even though Gerard Butler is nice on the eyes...but I do like The Ugly Truth movie poster because the message is immediately clear. Words are unnecessary.

Where the Wild Things Are Trailer

I saw the Where the Wild Things Are trailer awhile ago and loved everything about the it, from the typeface to the music. It looks like the film will be a visual adventure, just like the book.

A quoi ça sert l'amour

Signs Short Film

I stumbled upon this short film a few days ago. I'd rarely sit through a 12 minute video, but "Signs" caught my interest and kept me captivated. The director, Patrick Hughes, has several great commercials on his website and a few other short films. The spot was created by @radical.media, a multi-disciplinary integrated media company that has a wide portfolio with several talented professionals including Hughes.

Art & Copy Film

I got an e-mail about this film and I totally want to see it, unfortunately I'll have to wait awhile because I can't get to any of the screenings. The synopsis from the film's website,

"Directed by Doug Pray (SURFWISE, HYPE!, SCRATCH), ART & COPY captures the creative energy and passion behind the iconic campaigns that have had a profound impact on American culture. Featuring rare interviews with... industry legends, the film seeks to identify the elements that transform a slogan into a pop culture catch phrases.

The movie was filmed and edited during a four-year period and had an unusual source for its funding -- The One Club, a non-profit organization dedicated to the craft of advertising headquartered in New York.

ART & COPY provides a window into the creative process and the individuals who have changed our lives in ways we may not realize,” said Mary Warlick, CEO of The One Club. “The movie looks at advertising not as products flying off the shelf but as the work of a few American heroes who feel passionately about their craft, ideas, and the ability of ideas to change how people feel.”
