BBC: Robin Hood Logo

I just started to watch Robin Hood from the BBC and thought the show's logo was well-crafted.  The typeface fits the simple forest life the character leads while including his signature: the arrow.

The Secret Life of Logos & Gotham Books

While browsing at a bookstore yesterday, I came across an interesting book called The Secret Life of Logos by Leslie Cabarga. 75 designers contributed their opinions and experiences with logo creation. My favorite part is the sketches and logo variations of each identity, showing the evolution of the logo. One of my favorite identities is for Gotham Books, an imprint of publishing giant Penguin Group. According to the design firm responsible for the piece, Eric Baker Design Associates, "the logo both captures New York City, which the name Gotham implies, but distinctly refers to publishing with the book forms used to create the skyscraper icon."

Portland State University Logo

It took me a second, actually a few, to figure out Portland State University's logo. But now that I have, I love design. This is probably in part because it reminds me of a Celtic symbol of some sorts, not to mention the flawless fit of the lettering.

West Surfing Logo

At first, I didn't think much of the logo for West Surfing but then I thought, it's actually perfect. The wave style W is perfect for the surfing retail company. Hang ten.

Old School Brewers Logo

In my opinion, the old Milwaukee Brewers logo is one of the best logos ever created. Using a m and a b to form a baseball glove was pure brilliance. Whoever made it, knocked it out of the park.

Minnesota Zoo Logo

I love the Minnesota Zoo logo. It's a beautiful mix of animal and fauna, and easy to visually understand. The repetitive leaves that translate into the spots of the big cat work wonderfully. Absolutely fabulous.

PB&J Television Logo

I have seen this logo several times after the reality show Dress My Nest and always thought it was adorable. It is the logo for PB&J Television, a production company in Santa Monica, California.

Daytrip Society

"Daytrip Society is a destination for those inspired by the romance of nature and the adventure of travel...the boutique features a unique mix of gifts, home décor, gear and hand-crafted treasures that blends modern design with the outdoors..." (lingo from About page at website)

First, I love the crest for this Maine boutique. I think the bird on the binoculars says that this place is about enjoying your time, whether on a daytrip or browsing around the store.

I also love the layout located on their homepage:

It shows a variety of the store's products but doesn't appear to be too busy because there is a clear separation of the products by keeping the background white. Also, the layout reflects what I think the store is about: a lot of different things that can still fit together. Design-wise, if you can make this work, you've done your job.
